The chapel at the York Press has gone into a mandatory meeting to discuss plans to cut four journalists’ jobs, the NUJ website is reporting.
This is the same Newsquest chapel that staged a fantastic strike over pay last year, and it has already faced redundancies.
This form of industrial action can be a useful way of holding short sharp stoppages that keep management on their toes and can help, even in a small way, to circumvent the ludicrously unfair employment laws weighted against workers in dispute.
As previously reported, NUJ Left needs to do more to enable activists to share some of the lessons being learned in disputes. Suggestions welcome.
