Nick Higham’s report on tonight’s News at Ten into the decimation of regional media by profit-hungry news organisations was long-overdue – if a little light on analysis when it finally arrived.
Odd though that he didn’t seem to have spoken to the NUJ. Or if he had, its view or those of its members affected by the cuts was not reported, or even reflected.
It’s not unheard of for the relevant union to be invited to comment in reports of this nature. So why was the NUJ excluded in this case?
It couldn’t have anything to do with the fact that NUJ members at the BBC recently voted overwhelmingly for strike action over compulsory redundancies, because of course the BBC prides itself on its fair and balanced coverage.
Disgruntled NUJ members can complain via the BBC’s website if they are so minded.
