The following motion was passed by the Newsquest Essex (North) Chapel on Thursday 5 July 2012.

This chapel condemns the decision of the NUJ NEC to put union staff on notice of redundancy in a bid to make financial savings. At a time when members, reps and staff are regularly telling media bosses to find ways of making savings and increasing revenues other than making employees redundant, our chapel finds this is a move which smacks of hypocrisy.

This chapel urges the NUJ leadership to find other ways of sorting out its financial problems, and pledges to try and recruit more members to make this a fighting union. We also extend solidarity to brothers and sisters facing redundancy.
